How Iyanya Cheated On Me With Tonto Dikeh — Actress Yvonne Nelson

by Emmanuel Okikiola June 21, 2023
written by Emmanuel Okikiola

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, has revealed how her relationship with Nigerian singer, Iyanya, ended after she found out he was allegedly cheating on her with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh.

The actress made this known in her recently published book titled “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson.” She said that Iyanya assured her of his love to the point of tattooing her initials on his wrist and including her name in one of his hit songs, ‘Ur Waist.’

The actress went on to add that the separation happened after someone called her to inform her of Tonto Dikeh’s constant sleeping over at the singer’s house in her absence.

The excerpt from the book read, “We had a decent relationship, breakfast in bed and all niceties, dream relationship one could think of had the assurance that here’s someone I could be with forever. He tattooed my initial, YN, on his wrist, and I thought that was a big deal. If he wasn’t serious about me, he wouldn’t do that. In his hit song, ‘Ur Waist’, he mentioned how he lusted over me. One can therefore imagine my shock when I returned to Ghana after one of my visits to Nigeria and someone called me from his house.

“The caller said anytime I left Iyanya’s place, another actress came over to him and sometimes slept over. The person felt strongly that there was something going on between them and thought I should know. That actress turned out to be Tonto Dikeh of Nigeria, one of the female celebrities Iyanya named in his “Ur Waist” song.

“When I was convinced about the authenticity of the information I received, I was heartbroken. I took to Twitter to rant and vent. Tonto Dikeh responded on Twitter, saying people changed and so did feelings, so I should move on.

“I later heard more stories about what Iyanya did with some of his female crew members. It convinced me that what happened between him and Tonto Dike wasn’t an isolated incident. It was a pattern, his way of life. I knew I eventually would have left even if Tonto Dikeh didn’t come into the picture. I did not see the need to keep fighting her for a man I had lost, especially when I knew her fate was not going to be different from mine.”

Court Disregards Suit Seeking Removal of INEC Chairman Mahmoud Yakubu

by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele January 5, 2023
written by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declared that the Assets Declaration Form of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu was validly filled, lawful and in compliance with the law dismissing the suit against him.

Justice M. A. Hassan of the FCT High Court in a judgment delivered yesterday, dismissed a suit challenging the legitimacy of the assets declared by Yakubu, for being incompetent and lacking in merit.

The judge subsequently consequently barred security agencies from investigating the INEC boss over his valid assets declaration.

According to the judgment, contrary to the claim of the claimant, Somadina Uzoabaka, the Assets Declaration Form of Yakubu was lawful, valid and in compliance with the law.

Uzoabaka had in the suit sought for the removal of Yakubu as INEC Chairman over alleged falsehood in his Assets Declaration Form. Defendants in the Originating Summons marked FCT/HC/GAR/CV/47/202 are the Attorney General of the Federation and Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The claimant had sought among other things an order of mandatory injunction directing and compelling the INEC Chairman to recuse, excuse and exclude himself and or step down as the Chairman of INEC pending the investigation and consideration of the various allegations against him by the various law enforcement agencies.

The claimant also sought an order of Court barring the INEC Chairman from holding or assuming any public office for a period of 10 years.

However, in his counter affidavit, Yakubu had through his counsel, Emeka Obegolu, furnished the Court with several exhibits to show the sources of money for the purchase of the properties which the Claimant alleged were illegally acquired and insisted that his assets declarations were validly done.

However, the court in its judgment found that the declaration of assets by Prof. Yakubu was lawful, valid and in compliance with the law and that he cannot be investigated by any of the security agencies listed by the Claimant.

The judge who declined to grant any of the 14 reliefs sought by the claimant declared that the INEC Chairman cannot be removed over fabricated allegations of false assets declaration and subsequently the suit.

ActionAid Nigeria Expresses Concern Over Durumi IDPs, Urges FCTA For Resettlement

by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele December 29, 2022
written by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele

The ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has expressed concerned over the plights of the over 3,000 inhabitants of the Durumi internally displaced persons (IDP) camp made up of 330 households, 70 percent of whom are women and children from Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.

The victims were displaced by insurgents in the Northeast between 2012 and 2014.

Country Director, AAN, Comrade Ene Obi, on Wednesday in Abuja noted that the camp was demolished on December 21, 2022 by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) citing an upsurge in crime and criminality for the demolition.

“ActionAid Nigeria recognises that the office of the Permanent Secretary of FCTA seeks to rid Durumi district of criminal elements that are responsible for the lootings, killings, rape, traffic nuisance, drug peddling amongst others in the neighbourhood.

“However, it is crucial to note that this is an unsuitable time, amidst the Yuletide season, to carry out such ferocious exercise which has negative impacts on innocent and vulnerable displaced persons, particularly girls and women whose homes and sources of livelihood have now been destroyed,” Obi said.

According to her, it is also important to note that the original communities these displaced persons came from are still under attack by insurgents and have no option of going there, thus the need for government to make alternative provisions for them.

“FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and FCTA should consider as a matter of urgency, the establishment of an organised camp to resettle these set of vulnerable and the IDPs.

“The administration owes her citizenry a duty to protect lives and property, but hundreds of families have lost their personal effects and now exposed to the same criminalities the agency is working to eliminate because of the demolition and the limited notice period given.

“Hence, FEMA is under obligation to provide food, non-food, and dignity kits to these vulnerable persons during this unjust period they have been subjected to,” she said.

ASUU: Gbajabiamila Denies Promising FG’ll Pay Salary Arrears

by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele December 28, 2022
written by Oluwamuyiwa Oyedele

The House of Representatives on Wednesday disclosed that its Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila did not promise the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) payment of salary arrears by the Nigerian government.

This was contained in a statement issued by spokesman for the House, Ben Kalu.

Recall that ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, had on Tuesday accused Gbajabiamila of deceiving them into calling off its industrial action.

Osodeke also alleged that the speaker had presented a paper signed by him to ASUU leadership indicating the readiness of the government to pay in full the eight-month salaries to its members as well as attend to other grievances of the union.

Osodeke was quoted as saying: “Here we are till today, nothing has been done over the promise and that is why the Speaker did not say anything tangible since then at least on the issues let alone ensure that his promises are carried out.”

Kalu, who responded to the allegation, said the speaker never promised the union such.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the House to the concerns of the lecturers as contained in the 2023 Appropriation Bill, where N170 billion and N300 billion were set side for their welfare package and revitalization of universities respectively.

“No point did the Speaker of the House of Representatives commit to offset the arrears of salaries owed to union members for the time they were on strike”, Kalu said.

“It is now clear that ASUU President had-faith approach to negotiations and his affinity for political brinkmanship are significant reasons the universities were on strike for so long”, he added.
