by Emmanuel Okikiola August 19, 2023
written by Emmanuel Okikiola

An 84-year-old man, Gabriel Ahuwa, has been arrested by operatives of Edo State Police Command, for allegedly killing his 75-year-old wife over refusal to have sex with him.

The octogenarian was among the 198 suspects paraded by the State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor.

The suspects were arrested for various offenses ranging from alleged armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of fire arms, murder, cultism and others.

Speaking with journalists, the father of seven children alleged that his wife refused to have sex with him for a very long time.

He disclosed that he reported the matter to his children, adding that one of her daughters came to talk to his wife but she didn’t listen.

He said: “My wife is not listening to me, anytime I asked her to come and sleep with me she always decline. We have seven children together, five boys and two girls.

“I reported the matter to my family and her family, but she failed to listen to them and continue her old ways, and I was hearing information that pastors were sleeping her.

“Each time I demanded for sex, either she would tell me she is sick or she has ulcer, yet I am hearing rumour that she is sleeping with other men and I don’t have money to carry prostitutes.”

The grandpa also indicted his late wife for ‘poisoning’ his children’s mind, thereby making them stop sending him money or picking his calls.

He explained further: “So on Saturday last week in the afternoon, in the house, I picked up a cutlass and [cut] her all over her body. I did it in anger because she is not obeying me and I want people to know of it.”

He however said he regretted killing his wife after committing the crime.

One of his sons who craved anonymity however denied the allegation of abandoning their father, adding that they sent money to him five days ago.

$87m Theft: Abayomi Remanded As Court Adjourns Till October

by Emmanuel Okikiola July 24, 2023
written by Emmanuel Okikiola

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, July 24th, 2023 has adjourned the arraignment of Abayomi OluwaSesan and Onifade Adeniyi who were charged by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for gaining access to millions of subscribers’ investments at the Afriq Arbitrage Company online trading platform to October 9th, 2023.

They were accused of stealing, diverting and converting the sum of $87,883,904 (N75b based on black market rate) USD to personal use.

In the charge sheet with Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CR/289, the IGP’s lawyer, Wisdom Madaki charged the duo and others now at large on 10 counts bordering on cybercrime, money laundering and advanced fee fraud, allegedly perpetrated against the trading platform.

The police alleged they were able to commit the offence by fraudulently changing the ownership credentials of the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jesam Michael, among other things.

When the matter was called up before Justice Binta Nyako, the suspects lawyer raised the objection that they have obtained an injunction to contest the issue of their human right.

The honorable judge rhetorically asked him if the case is in Lagos why is he in the court room today?

The issue at the federal high court is not a human right issue but a criminal issue which supercede the so called objection raised by the suspects lawyer.

The honorable judge reminded him that he is not helping matter but that since that’s what’s he preferred, he should go to Algis court and sort our the issues first and come back to her court to continue the criminal case. She, however reminded him that the court won’t be in session till October. Thus, she adjourned the case till October 9th, 2023.

It would be recalled that Abayomi Segun Oluwasesan, who was employed by his boss on the 15th of June, 2022 to work as a web developer, literally tempered with the platform at a time when his boss, Jesam Micheal went for a liver transplant and entrusted the codes to him.

Overwhelmed by greed, Abayomi who was entrusted with the sensitive data for the smooth operations of the company, engaged the services of his cohorts, disrupting the smooth operations of the platform and stealing hard-earned investors’ money running into several billions.

Checks revealed that AAS is a global phenomenon with over 100,000 investors from over 75 counties. Thinking his employer, Jesam Micheal would not survive the operation, he withdrew several millions of dollars and became an instant rich dude with an astonishing flamboyant lifestyle overnight. His first criminal act was obtaining a Ghania passport which he used in acquiring other international residency and properties. He became the owner of a car dealership known as FIDORAY Autos and imported over 30 exotic wonders on wheels. He acquired Tanzanian and Dubai citizenship. Aside from that, he bought state-of-the-art properties in the UK, Dubai, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

One of the plazas he acquired in Lagos was to the tune of N450m, landed properties around Dangote refineries to the tune of N1b, and splashed a billion naira on the interior decoration of the Mesh 3-star hotel in Mainland, Lagos State.

A nobody Abayomi was travelling across the globe with investors’ money on first-class tickets. His dubious activities literally crashed the lucrative platform on the 15th of May, 2023.

EFCC Re-arraigns Businesswoman For Alleged N57.6m Fraud In Lagos

by Emmanuel Okikiola May 24, 2023
written by Emmanuel Okikiola

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, May 22, re-arraigned one Oluremi Phillips for an alleged N57, 690,000 fraud before Justice I.O. Ijelu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.

Philips was previously standing trial before Justice S.O. Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, following her arraignment on January 27, 2022. However, the trial could not be concluded before the retirement of Justice Solebo in November 2022, a development that resulted in the re-assigning of the case file to Justice Ijelu.

Philips was re-arraigned alongside her company, Omritas Energy Limited, on a five-count charge bordering on stealing and issuance of dud cheques to the tune of N57, 690,000.

Count one reads: “Oluremi Ebun Philips and Omritas Energy Limited, sometime in 2016, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, fraudulently converted and stole the sum of N57, 690,000.00, property of AYM Shafa Limited meant for the supply of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) which you failed to supply.”

Count two reads: “Oluremi Ebun Philips and Omritas Energy Limited, on or about the 10th of April 2017 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, knowingly issued a Diamond Bank cheque of Nigeria Plc for the sum of N14, 298,075.00 payable to AYM Shafa Limited, which when presented for payment was dishonoured on the grounds that no sufficient funds were standing to the credit of the account.”

The defendant, again, pleaded “not guilty” to all the counts preferred against her. In view of her plea, the prosecution counsel, T.J. Banjo, asked the Court for a trial date and further prayed the Judge to order the remand of the defendant, who also represents the second defendant, at a Correctional Centre, pending the trial date.

The defence counsel, Akin Olatunji, however, informed the court that his client had been granted bail on March 18, 2022 while standing trial before Justice Solebo. “We were able, after two months that the defendant was at the Correctional Centre, to perfect the bail. “We, therefore, humbly urge your lordship to allow the defendant to continue with the previous bail, as she does not constitute a flight-risk,” he said.

The prosecution counsel, however, raised objections, noting that “Your lordship now sits on the matter. The defendant has not brought any bail application before the court, and the court is a court of records.”

After listening to the arguments of both parties, and going through the records of the proceedings of the previous court, including the bail ruling of retired Justice Solebo, the trial judge granted the defendant bail.

The Judge held that “I am satisfied that the conditions are adequate. The bail conditions are hereby adopted by this court. The bail conditions, having been perfected by the defendant… the first defendant shall continue to enjoy same before this court,” he said.

The case was adjourned till June 28 and 29, 2023 and July 4, 2023 for trial.
